Sketchup and Furniture

Google Sketchup is a free 3D modelling package. In theory Sketchup COLLADA models can be imported into Second Life (but I can't get it to work at the moment). Have a look at the Sketchup Blog showing Sketchup being used to model furniture.

  2. OK I know - its 12th Nov and I only just noticed this comment. Its because they are hidden away at the bottom of the blog.
I think the 8 hour limit is only for the expert/pro Sketchup. The standard one is free with unlimited use, and yes as you know by now, SL has its own building tools. The reason I'm so interested in COLLADA files is that we can build in whatever tool we want; Sketchup, Maya, Blender etc. and pull them into SL. There are a huge number of free models available online which in theory now can all be ported from one environment to another - a bit like JPG files for images. I'm sure there will be many glitches but at least there is a common file format now. I did manage to pull COLLADA files into SL now - it was me using the wrong part of the Beta grid that was the problem.
